  1. Citigroup has named Jane Fraser as its first female CEO, making her the first female CEO of a big global bank. Former Citigroup CEO Sandy Weill, told CNBC that he is “thrilled that they chose a woman, but more thrilled that they chose a woman who has done a phenomenal job over the last 16 years at Citi in just everything she’s ever had the opportunity to manage.”

 

  1. A lead epidemiologist in Victoria, Professor Catherine Bennett, says the Victorian state government is “fearful of this virus” and thinks “the fear is palpable”, which explains the response of applying “blanket restrictions”. “It’s strange to me as an epidemiologist because we now should be in a much better position to be very targeted, very competent in what we need to do and to get on with it,” said Ms Bennett.

Kathleen Conlon, the director of Bluescope and realestate.com.au, and incoming chairman of Lyans Corporation, has also critiqued the government’s COVID-19 response to “use an atom bomb for every problem”. Ms Conlon believes the better monitoring of the data and analytics of JobKeeper and JobSeeker payments would have created space for a “tailored approach” to the pandemic financial risks.

Corporate venture capital (CVC) and the world of funding for entrepreneurs is being targeted as one of the major contributors to the gender pay gap, with less than 3% of all VC funds in the US in 2019 going toward women-led companies (according to Pipeline Equity) and more than 90% of US venture capital firms having male decision makers (according to a study by Axios).
