All-female team behind million-dollar Charity House
Designed and built by an all-female team, the Strathnairn Charity House aims to provide a significant boost to local community organisations while promoting participation of women in the construction sector. Proceeds are expected to fetch over a million dollars for three Canberra charities, including Pegasus Riding for the Disabled, Karinya House and Canberra City Care Charnwood and Hands Across Canberra.
Deutsche Bank to increase its employment of women
Germany’s Deutsche Bank has promised to raise its employment of women among its roughly 600 most senior executives to at least 30 per cent by 2025. Deutsche Bank’s global head of human resources, Michael Ilgner, told the Financial Times “Greater diversity among senior executives is a business necessity for us.” In addition to this, they also have new targets to increase female staff in middle management from 29 per cent to 35 per cent by 2025.
First female pilot from Azad Jammu and Kashmir
Maryam Mujtaba, a resident of Muzaffarabad, has become the first female commercial pilot from the liberated area. The Azad Jammu and Kashmir president, Sardar Masood Khan, said her success would positively encourage more women to seek employment in this field.
Girl receives medal of honour for saving 4-year-old cousin
A 13-year-old Liverpool girl was honoured by the Girl Scouts of the USA for saving her 4-year-old cousin from drowning in the Seneca River. Isabel Fingerman was given her organization’s National Medal of Honour for a Lifesaving Act, applicable to a female who displays a heroic act beyond her degree of maturity.
Otago Lakes Central welcomes first female Māori police commander
Paula Enoka has been appointed the first female and first Māori area commander after serving 6 years as Queenstown police station response manager. Awarded with the Queen’s Service Medal in 2008, Southern District Commander Superintendent Paul Basham said, “her outstanding leadership qualities have been on display in our district for a number of years now.”
