Dorinda Cox becomes first female Aboriginal Senator from WA

Yamatji and Noongar woman, Dorinda Cox, has been sworn in as Western Australia’s first-ever Indigenous female representative in the federal senate. Dorinda aims to continue to advocate for women’s safety issues and is passionate about securing greater protection on cultural heritage in the state and addressing homelessness. There are now seven First Nations representatives in federal parliament.

 

$1.2 billion deal between Spanx and Blackstone brokered by an all-female team

Shapewear company, Spanx, is now worth an estimated $1.2 billion after the investment firm Blackstone purchased a majority stake in the company. Blackstone’s mandate is that at least one third of board seats at the new companies it acquires must be filled by diverse candidates, referring to gender, race, or sexual orientation. Blackstone’s portfolio also includes the female-led company Bumble and actress Reese Witherspoon’s media company, Hello Sunshine.

The European Space Agency is overseeing the development of the European Service Module which is the part of the Orion spacecraft that provides air, electricity and propulsion. The third mission aims to bring the first man and woman to the Moon since Apollo.

New Zealand appoints its first female Māori governor-general

Dame Cindy Kiro is the first Māori woman to be named governor-general of New Zealand. After her swearing in, Dame Cindy said she wanted to use her role to reach out to marginalised people in society and acknowledged that people were living in a time of immense uncertainty and anxiety due to the pandemic.
