#ChooseToChallenge your financial knowledge

For International Women’s Day 8 March 2021, the theme is ‘Choose to Challenge’. At Tilly Money, we choose to challenge the gender wealth gap and to do our bit to help close this gap. Our vision is to build a community around strengthening the financial well-being of females, their financial independence and financial literacy. So here’s a challenge for you to act on: we’ve compiled and grouped our informative content into 7 categories. We want you to read them and implement what they advise into your life.

1.Why do we need to challenge our financial knowledge?

As Israelmore Ayivor once said, “Knowledge is Power, Power provides Information; Information leads to Education, Education breeds Wisdom; Wisdom is Liberation.” At Tilly Money we not only aim to reduce the gender pay gap, but also the gap in knowledge and information that women may face when it comes to monetary matters. Challenge yourself this International Women’s Day to increase your knowledge by actively learning new financial terms, by reviewing your purchases and narrowing down on your monetary goals and identifying gaps where you don’t feel as independent and informed when it comes to your finances.

2. Budgeting

Budgeting is a necessary evil and is unavoidable if you want to progress your bank balance, eradicate long-standing debt and work toward your purchasing goals. Whether it’s a house deposit, a holiday or simply a goal amount, saving for your future and budgeting go hand in hand. Challenge yourself this week to learn how to budget through Tilly Money’s tips!

3. Savings

Budgeting and savings go hand in hand. Now that you have implemented some budgeting practises, consider our suggested sacrifices to successfully save more money and work on changing your money habits. We know this can be a little difficult, especially after years of the same financial routines, but we know you’re up for the challenge!

4. Superannuation

A 2014 survey by the Centre for International Finance and Regulation revealed a startling lack of knowledge of basic facts about superannuation for young Australians. Superannuation is something many young women don’t consider as it’s “future me’s problem.” This week we’re calling you to challenge your knowledge and understanding on superannuation and encourage you to learn about salary sacrificing, how to read your super statement and have a conversation about your financial future.

5. Shares

Investing in your future can go hand in hand with investing in shares! This week we are challenging you to begin your understanding of shares and the stock market, to help you to toward building your wealth by buying into quality companies. We have some great tips for first time investors, as well as a walk-through on how to buy shares and build your portfolio.

6. Property

Sick of renting and ready to put your money toward owning your own home or apartment? Challenge yourself to fast track your first home deposit, and begin your path to buying your first property.
