As the first woman to officiate a major college football game, the first woman to officiate a major college-bowl game and the first full-time female official in the NFL, Sarah Thomas will now be the first woman to officiate the Super Bowl. When asked about her success in shattering gender barriers Sarah said, “If you’re doing things because you love them, then things have a tendency to just kind of fall into place.”
Pope Francis has appointed two women to Vatican posts previously held only by men
After more than 10,000 people signed a petition demanding that women could vote on final documents sent to the Pope, two women have been appointed to Vatican posts. Previously, women have merely participated as observers and consultants and only specially appointed or elected male representatives could vote.
South West TAFE scholarship supports female trade course studies
A $2,000 Women in Trades South West TAFE – Portland Aluminum scholarship is now open to women who are studying a non-traditional trade course in an effort to build a more diverse workforce and increase female representation in the resources sector. This includes women studying carpentry, civil construction, engineering, automotive, plumbing, electrical, cabinet making and building.

The champion of the under elite women’s road race at the 2021 Federation University Road National Championships is Sarah Roy. Sarah took out the prestigious title for Australia’s only Women’s WorldTour team with a solo victory in the 104.4km race.
U.S. Postal Service to issue a stamp commemorating Chien-Shiung Wu
On the 11th of February, the International Day of Women and Girls in Science, the U.S. Postal Service will issue a stamp commemorating Chien-Shiung Wu, who passed away in 1997 after never receiving a Nobel Prize for her demonstration of the effect called parity violation. As one of the many women unfairly overlooked by the Nobel Committee, she’s now being honoured alongside Einstein, Fermi, Feynman.
