1. Susan Ryan, the Australian politician who helped pass the Sex Discrimination Act in 1984, passed away on Sunday aged 77. Ms Ryan served as Australia’s first Age Discrimination Commissioner, special Minister of State, Minister for Education and Minister assisting the Prime Minister for the Status of Women. She was the first woman to assume this role relating to women’s affairs and the first female minister from the Labor Party.
2. US President Trump has nominated Federal Appeals Court Judge, Amy Coney Barrett as the new Supreme Court Judge to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg after her passing last week.
3. England’s director of women’s cricket, Clare Connor, shared concerns that international women’s cricket could struggle to attract investments due to the financial impact of COVID-19. Ms Connor told BBC Sport it was “worrying” and that “some boards will struggle over the next year, if they’re not already struggling. It’s a concern.”
4. The Economic Security 4 Women (eS4W) and Femeconomy are leading the call for the government to deliver a Gender Responsive Budget (GRB) this year. Australia was the first country in the world to use a GRB, which was incorporated annually from 1984 – 2014. The GRB works by developing gender budget statements and integrating gender impact assessments into budgetary decision-making processes.
