1. According to a study from the Journal of Economic Perspectives by Leah Boustan and Andrew Langan, the number of women in economics is below many other male-dominated industries and has not increased since the 1990s.

2. Scotland has passed legislation that allows free access to female sanitary products for those in need. Scottish parliamentary officials say “the purpose is to eliminate period poverty,” making Scotland the first country to do so.

3. The AFR’s Young Rich List has debuted new female entrants to the list for 2020, including Zoe Foster-Blake, founder of Go-To Skincare, tennis play Ash Barty and Aquamamma founder Emma Gibson.

4. Joe Biden has appointed Janet Yellen to be the US treasury secretary in his administration. Yellen was a former Federal Reserve chair during Obama’s presidency, served as the head of the Council of Economic Advisers under President Bill Clinton and is also a Professor of Economics at the University of California.

5. The Annual school catchment zones report from Domain has shown five school catchment areas across Australia where values grew more than 30%, year-on-year. The areas centre on Western Australia’s Dudley Park Primary School, Como Primary School, Armadale Senior High School and NSW’s Epping Boys High School and Colo High School.
