Over $350 million to be invested in women’s health
As a part of the 2021 Federal Budget, more than $350 million will go toward improving long-term health outcomes for Australian women with a particular emphasis on funding toward cervical and breast cancer, endometriosis and reproductive health. The announcement follows significant criticism over the Australian Government’s handling of female issues.

The NRLW State of Origin to feature two female coaches
For the first time in history, both the QLD and NSW NRLW teams will be coached by women in the Ampol State of Origin. NSW announced Kylie Hilder would become the first female coach of the women’s side since Karen Stuart in 2011 and Tahnee Norris was named Queensland coach, making her the first female coach of the women’s team.
Winners of the 2021 HESTA Australian Nursing & Midwifery Awards announced
The national celebration of the critical contributions of Australia’s nurses and midwives saw Shannon Philp win the 2021 Nurse of the Year for her leadership and work through the Chris O’Brien Lifehouse to improve care for women with gynaecological cancers. Janelle Dillon was awarded Midwife of the Year for her work in assisting Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women of Kalgoorlie to receive pregnancy care
Marriage certificates in England and Wales now includes mothers’ names
Considered the biggest change to the marriage registration system since 1837, marriage certificates in England and Wales now include the names of both parents, instead of only their fathers. The change is a part of the new digital system that aims to modernise, simplify, and speed up the marriage registration process.
